This is a Hollyoaks advertisement, it was the only soap poster i could find. It's more common to find drama posters or film posters. We thought we'd much prefer to do a poster as we believe it will have more impact and allows more individuality with design as you don't have to comply with house styles.
This poster is reminiscent of tv listings magazine due to it's colour scheme, it's very bold, intense and they clash (there's no mood/theme being put across). They used generical bold fonts all varying from each other and they also have borders surrounding.
The layout is similar to that of a film poster in the sense that it's extreme stylised, the characters have a lot of sex appeal, there's a title and an ambigous/enigmatic slogan and there's also a review at the top.
The narrative image is one that would appeal to a young mind as i don't believe there's much depth. All the colours are bold and only signify a happy ignorence. The slogan playing with fire is not exactly the most warming phrases yet the smiling faces and commercial clothing is sending of contradicting messages.
The two main characters revolving around this particular storyline is common to a poster. It's highlighting the focus, which revolves around these two characters. It does nothing to win over new viewers but instead it's used as a reminder to existing fans with knowledge of the program of storyline occuring now or in the near future. The image present and the general style does nothing to inform viewers of locations or circumstances. I believe it gives a very unclear image of the narrative structure forming a poor narrative image that fails to attract me to watch it. It fials to communicate any reason to watch it as there's no enigma's, not drama, no excitment, no realism, no real storyline.
I doubt will adopt this particular style but we may chose to use bold colours. We may also choose to not feature all the main characters inthe soap but concentrate on only one.
